Vietnam so far has been well known as a country of unique cuisine, breathtaking landscapes, and friendly citizens. Above all those wonderful features that make a great destination, the country is also popular for being a successful fighter against COVID-19, treating foreign friends well during quarantine here in Vietnam. Though there is no digital nomad visas category for Vietnam visitors, unlike Chiangmai or Estonia, the country is still an uprising popular nomad spot in Asia. It is easy to get a tourist, short-term or long-term business visas for international visitors to Vietnam – a country definitely not just worth living and visiting, but also doing business.

Those who are in Vietnam visa exemption list just need to prepare a valid passport then can enter the country for tourism and business purposes. Just remember that the original passport should be valid at least 6 months following the arrival date to Vietnam, and has 2 blank pages for immigration stamps. Some nationalities can enter Vietnam without country in a certain period of time may be noticed of other conditions (if any).
So what about citizens who are not free from a Vietnam visa? For this case, no matter what your purpose to Vietnam if tourism or business, a valid Vietnam visa is a must.
Getting Vietnam visa
At the moment, foreigners have 3 common ways to get a Vietnam visa including applying for a Vietnam visa at the local Vietnam embassy, Vietnam visa on arrival, and Vietnam Evisa.
Vietnam visa at local Vietnam embassy
This can be considered a traditional method to get a Vietnam visa. Applicants will need to go back-and-forth to the local Embassy in person or send by post to submit all documents and then receive the results.
When applying for a visa at the Embassy, the visa fee will be nonrefundable no matter whether your Vietnam visa is issued or not. Moreover, the required documents and procedures at different Embassies/ Consulates may vary so applicants are highly recommended to contact directly with the Embassy for more details.
Submitting a Vietnam visa at the local Embassy also means you have to part with your original passport as well as cover other expenses like travel costs, printing materials costs, etc. while having no idea if your visa is approved.
Vietnam visa on arrival
Of all 3 ways of getting a Vietnam visa, Vietnam visa on arrival is seen the most reasonable and convenient.
With Vietnam visa arrival, applicants can stay in the country from 1 month – 3 months single/multiple entry up to 1 year multiples entries (US citizens) with both tourist and business purposes.
Applicants will have to submit no printed documents but send a trustworthy, secured Vietnam visa application form online, receive a Vietnam visa approval letter via email after 2 working days (normal processing, tourist purpose), and then finally get a visa stamped on passport at Vietnam International Airport.
Just a little reminder: Vietnam visa on arrival is available for those who enter Vietnam by AIR only so make sure you will take a flight to one of five airports including Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat, Cat Bi, Da Nang, Cam Ranh Airport.
Unlike applying for a visa at the Embassy, visitors will pay 2 kinds of no-hidden fees when obtaining a Vietnam visa on arrival. Service fee will be paid online for the service provider once you submit your application form while stamping fee will be paid in cash for the Immigration Officer at the airport.
Although the Vietnam visa approval letter is legitimately issued by Vietnam Immigration Dept, applicants can not apply directly but via another service provider. So that’s why you have to pay the above mentioned service fee. And, of course, if your application is declined, this amount of service fee will be refunded back (depending on certain case).

Launched by Vietnam Immigration Dept in 2017, Vietnam Evisa is eligible for foreigners who enter the country via all airports, land ports, and seaports with tourism purpose, 1 month single entry only.
While Vietnam visa on arrival can be applied for most nationalities, Vietnam Evisa is applicable for citizens of 80 countries only so please check out carefully to see if you are in this list. The fee for getting a Vietnam Evisa can be cheaper; however, this amount is also not refunded when Vietnam visa application is rejected.
